Neighbors Dog Poisoned

Our neighbor claims his dog was poisoned by eating rat poison. He thinks a bird may have carried rat poison from our yard to their yard and the dog ate it. His vet bill for treating the dog is over $1000 and wants us to pay for it. Are we liable?

Your neighbor would have to prove that you maliciously placed the poison in his yard.
