My friend returned to work about 7 months ago after 3 years of unemployment due a disability. She received LTD benefits from her prior place of work during those 3 years and also applied for social security benefits during that time. She never received the SS benefits during her time of unemployment but recently, after a hearing, received back pay for the time the SSA determined her disabled. Is she legally bound to repay any of those back SS benefits to her LTD provider that covered her while she was unemployed? Thanks for your help.

Most LTD plans have a SS offset. If she received SS monies, then she is most likely obligated to make retribution to her LTD carrier.
