What is the name of your state? New Jersey
My spouse was injured in slip and fall injury in major store chain. Case arbitrated and settled, but now attorneys are saying 'found' $4,200 in bills from dr PLUS $17,000 in unpaid dr bills. Dr accepted copay throughout case knowlingly being paid by insurance co. Can dr sue for his unpaid bills? understand ins co can sure under right of subrogation....

Your settlement (your wifes) was to pay for her medical bills and whatever else she agreed to (pain/suffering, etc.).
You have to pay those bills.
You already know the answer to your own question....
