We live in a newly constructed community where the lots were unusually subdivided, and now we would like to re-positioning our driveway the way that it should've been done in the 1st place. This would require either an easement from a neighboring home or purchasing a small portion of land outright from the same neighbor. The neighbor has agreed to this and has expressed no interest in keeping this portion of land as it is not even viewable from his home.

Which is the better option in the long run? And, how do we proceed....(ie. land survey, grading permits, real estate contract, etc.)?? Is it easier and more cost effective to simply get an easement for the driveway construction, or purchase the land and avoid re-sale issues with a property easement?

Thank you!
