What is the name of your state? Tennessee
I am one of four sibblings inheriting 2 houses from a death...however, another family member has the right to live, rent or use the houses as she pleases until her death...we all understood this and thought there was no problem..however, we are now having a serious problem. This life tenant does not want to live rent or use the houses....instead she wants us to buy her life estate..to us that seems ridiculous because why would we buy something we will later inherit (not to mention..we are young and have no way of paying for her life estate) now she is refusing to do anything...the administrators are having trouble closing out the estate because of this issue. We are now worrying because the taxes, insurance, etc...are coming due..we do not want to pay because legally she has not disclaimed the houses (nor do we think she will)..however if she doesnt cover the houses with insurance, pay taxes, take care of the property What can we do? is this our responsibility even if she hasn't disclaimed this property?
