What is the name of your state? Michigan

My daughter who lives in Michigan had her car towed to a car repair shop when it stopped running. They told her it was the timing belt and charged her over $600.00 to repair it. When the car did the same thing as before it was fixed 2 weeks later she towed it back to them but they would not even look at it without charging her. The owner said their parts were fine. After the owner left a worker admitted to her that they knew the head gasket was bad and probably the head was cracked. Since it was an old car they knew it should have been junked since that is so expensive to fix but yet they changed the timing belt for $600.00 so they could get some money from a trusting, unsuspecting women (she is 27 yrs old) Is there any way we can get her money back since she should have been told about the Head gasket and given her options? Should she us small claims or would a lawyer help her? She had a tape recorder in her purse when he admitted that they knew about the head gasket.
