We sold a boat 3 1/2 yrs ago. They said they would transfer the boat from our home within the week. A week passed nothing---We ran into them about a month later & ask if they would come & pick up the boat. They never showed up & it seemed they had disappeared for about 3 1/2 years. He called the other night out of the blue & wants to pick up the boat. It has been sitting in our driveway & we have never used it. We recently spent 300 for a mast. At one point we thought we were going to move & we were concerned about what to do with the boat. Do we have any legal leg at all? Could we charge for storage--Is there a statute of limitations on buying personal property in Hawaii.

If they have already paid for the boat in full then let them pick it up and haul it off. Since you did not give them a demand notice to move the boat off of your property by a certain date or else storage fees would apply, there is no agreement between the parties as to any additional fees or costs other than the cost to purchase the boat. If you never used the boat and have already sold it, why would you spend 300 for a new mast? It appears that you just gave the new owner free storage.
I hope you got the persons home and work telephone numbers. Then you could call and tell him "pick up da boat by next week or bruddah going slap your head for being lolo".
