I bought a used car from a Private seller looked over with my brother did not see anything wrong, the car was a 1997, Dodge avenger, and the price was 2500, I gave the seller 900 in cash and then I wrote a check for the rest of the amount, while I was driving on the highway the Hood of the car flow up and hit the windshield, I cancelled the check, and now the private seller wants to report the check as fraud, and that in the state of washington is Class C Felony, I want to know if there is anything that can protect me, and how I can do to no be at fault in this situation, where it was a really bad nightmare, unfurtunetly it all happened so quick, and I'm glad nothing happen to us while driving. Please help, any info, advise, Thank you.

First, take the hold off the check. That is absolutely the wrong way to deal with a situation such as yours, you are taking a legal action into your own hands and you don't have the right to. The seller is correct and the state of Washington has some pretty stiff laws when it comes to check fraud. Next question, who closed the hood on the vehicle prior to you driving it home?
