My ex girlfriend has poor credit and bought a car in her most recent ex's name. They were never married...She has made about a year's worth of payments on it and has around $7,000 equity in the car. The ex is wanting to take the car back now since it is in his name. She has proof that she made the payments. Does she have any recourse? Can she get any of the equity back?

Yep. All she has to do is show the court her WRITTEN agreement with the ex that the car is hers. Absent that WRITTEN agreement, there is little to no chance that she will be able to assert a claim to a vehicle that is owned by someone else.
