What is the name of your state? California

A friend of mine was in a recent car accident in which he was the cause. The other party is suing him for damages and his insurance coverage will only cover $5000. He believes that the other party may be able to garnish his wages to pay any additional damages over the $5000. However his wife has a savings account in her name and he is concerned if the other party can come after his wife's assets? I appreciate any help that you can offer.

California is a community property state so they may be able to take your spouse's money if you can't prove it was already hers before you married her.
