What is the name of your state? California
While on medical leave and still on my probation period I was let go via certified mail. During that time my boss was telling everything was ok and to get better, the next thing I know I was being let go.

No. If you were on "probation", I am assuming that you had not been there for at least 12 months. Accordingly, you would not be eligible for FMLA or the state equivalent and your employer had no legal obligation to hold your job, regardless of the reason for your absences.
