CA Divorce?

My sister was married in CA when she was 19. She was in the military. Her husband cheated on her while in CA and she has since left the military and moved back to NY. First- should she file papers for divorce in CA? Second, are there any issues with her having been in the military? Third- can it be annuled because they were young, he cheated, etc..? Can we do this without a lawyer (FYI- no kids, no assets)?

She does not need an attorney if there are no assets or children.. she can not get an anullment. If she has been in NY for 6 months, she can file there.

Did your sister ever change her permanent home of residence(leave address) from NY to California?if she did not, then she can file in NY without waiting six months...As long as she was honorably discharged, but did not retire, there are no issues except where to file, which depends on if she ever changed her home of residence. You might have her check the status on her SGLI(life insurance) sometimes that is extended after someone leaves the military, which means he would be entitled to some of it unless he waives that right. hope this helped!
