Need help with a car purchase

What is the name of your state? North Carolina

My husband's father just purchased a car for my husband on 1/3/06. We have not signed any papers for the car nor do we even want the car, is my fathe-in-law out of his 2500.00 or can her get his check back legally. We have never seen this car nor have we driven this car. We need a car but can't travel to get it, and can't afford to ship the car from Va to NC. We want to get a car from locally here in NC. What can we do????

Why would you have to do anything. This is dad's problem.

I have asked this question on behalf of my father-in-law. He was asking what should or could he do.

Why would you have signed anything for a car that you didn't purchase? What has your father-in-law signed? Has he taken possession of the keys yet?
