Good evening...
Last week my wife and our new puppy visited a neighbors home when he decided to check out thier cat (not agressive) the cat clawed the dogs eye causing a laceration to the conrnea and damaging the lense (called a full thickness laceration) this was diagnosed and referred to an othmalic veternary surgeon who performed the surgey to repair the dogs eye. If it was not done the eye would have become infected and most likely removal of the eye would have resulted. We have documentation as well as the bills. So far the vet bill has cost us over $1600.00 and Im happy to say so far the dog is recovering well. At this point we are attempting to resolve this matter without court but should our efforts fail would we have a case or are we wasting our time? We live in the state of Minnesota.

Thank you...

IMO, you're wasting your time. It doesn't appear from anything you wrote that your neighbors were negligent in any way. It's pretty much common knowledge that dogs and cats don't always get along. If anyone was negligent in this, it was your wife for not keeping control of the dog in the neighbors home.
