Hello,

State: Minnesota

I am new to tax filing in US. I came here in Aug'2004. For 2004, our company filed on behalf of us. I left USA in May'05 for 3months. This year (for 2005) company pay policy got changed and now we need to file tax returns ourselves. Can anyone help me in calculation/preparation of my Tax Return? What are other excemptions? Any free tools? or Any ideas.

I got married in May and came to USA from India in August. My wife is dependant/does'nt work.

Details are like this
For year 2005 (as in W2)
gross pay = 42394.26
Less OtherCafe125 = 637.10
Reported W-2 Wages = 41,757.16

Federal income tax withheld = 7039.71
Social security tax withheld = 2588.94
Medicare tax withheld = 605.48
MN State income tax = 2398.96
(column 14 in W2) Other=2132.81

Excemptions:
FEDERAL:3
STATE: 3
Taxable Marital Status:Married

Thanks in advance.

1. You are reading the form wrong. There is no way in hell they took out $7000 in medicare taxes and only $605 in income taxes.

2. There is no way we can help you figure this out online.

3. Go to see a tax pro.

4. Bring with you form W-7 filled out by your wife, and properly notarized.

5. This is a lot more complicated than you think.
