I am from Ohio and retained a lawyer for a DUI - he told me that it would cost me $750 to retain his services with $250 due up front. I paid the $250 and another $100 a month later which left me with $400 to go. He is now billing me for $1500 (minus the $250). Can he charge me this much when he quoted me at $750? Any help would be appreciated.

What does your fee agreement say? How much were you court costs? Were those included in the $750 or not? I would guess probably not. $750 was probably his hourly rate and the other $750 may have been his costs on your behalf but you really need to look at your fee agreement.

Called my lawyer and he admitted getting me mixed up with another client so we're all squared away. He stuck with his original quote of $750. :)
