My neighbor (?) has put up a fence, as we were moving into our new home. This is in a new developement. They have recently requested to be reimbursed for the fence that separates our yard from theirs. We have two problems with this. 1) We had no choice about the fence, we were not asked if we even wanted a fence (they own dogs) nor if we wanted to share the cost, but out of common courtesy we feel we have to pay. and 2) We know what he paid for a contractor to put up the fence and he wants us to pay more than what he paid. Can we refuse to pay him what is requested and pay just what we know he actually paid? Can we even refuse to share in the cost since they did this on their own. Thanks for the responses.:)

Contact the Farm Bureau in your state; they will tell you where to look up the fence laws.
