What is the name of your state? NY

Nutshell: Somebody sued me because I refused to pay the remaining $2000 on a bad roof job, hoping to reconcile BEFORE heading to court.

I countersued the roofer.

The judge awarded "in favor of the defendant, sunshine31, for a total judgment in the amount of $1800."

So do I now owe him $200 instead of $2000 or does he owe me $1800?

I thought that if I owed him, the judgment would say "in favor of the plaintiff, [incompetant roofer's name here], in the amount of $200."

Thanks for any feedback in advance. What is the name of your state?

No, the Court doen't do arithmetic in it's judgments.

If there were a judgment in each of your favors, it would say something like:
On the action:
Judgment in favor of X against Y in the sum of $ . . .
On the Cross-action:
Judgment in favor of Y against X in the sum of $ . . .

If all it says is what you posted, it appears that you won and he lost - across the board. He owes you $1,800.
