What is the name of your state? NJ

We signed a contract for attic renovation, new stairs off porch, new front door totalling 9500$. Non-specific basement repairs (removal of moldy sheetrock/studs and rebuilt) with price TBD also written on contract. $2500 given upfront for 3 1/2 weeks of horrible work, lip service, (immigrant) workers dropped off (never the actual contractor) without supplies, direction, or food/water. Also a pile of debris left in our driveway for 3 weeks. They nicked a water pipe (had to turn off hot water x3 days) and cut an elec wire causing a light switch to not work (both never repaired).Have not heard from him in almost 2 weeks with last conversation ending in "I'll be there in 15 minutes". Basement is a disasterous mess at the moment.

Question is: Any chance of us ending this and getting any money back?

We are certainly willing to pay for the initial demolition and for a few new studs. No way are we letting him near any of the other jobs we wanted him to do be cause he is obviously dishonest and lacks any professional integrity whatsoever.

Was the contractor licensed?

Go to small claims court to get a Judge to determine the worth of their work then bar the doors and get someone else to do the jobs for you!

Contact the state's attorney general's office. They may or may not help you, but at least your complaint will be added to any existing ones, and eventually some action may be taken. Sometimes taking money for remodeling or repairs, and then not doing the work, is seen as fraud, and then you have a better chance of getting the attorney generals office to assist you.
