What to do if anything!
A single woman is hired away from company A to come to company B at a good increase in salary with an additional raise promised to follow in 3 to 6 months. Owner of company B does the hiring and tells of the travel that will be part of new position at company B. First business travel occurs within short time period. During that travel owner/ employer touches single women / employee improperly. Employee says nothing. the second night, employer follows employee's car to employee's hotel where employer is not staying. Employee sees employer get on elevator so employee stays in hotel lobby. After hoping that employer has given is no longer there, employee walks stairs to hotel room and looks out to see if employer is any where around. Employee realizes that not only is employer standing in front of hotel room but that employer has seen employee. Employee decides to confront situation and tells employer that there will be not entrance to room by employer and that employee does not want to be touched again. Employee feeling close to H&R person and tells H&R person of the very small company, owned by employer and they offer to put on record ( that employer can go to any time). Employee decides not to have on record, wanting to keep job. Employee also tells a second person that is also an employee. Several months later employer calls employee to his office and tells to keep quite about the incident and that nothing happen anyway. (employer has heard of incident from another employee) Employee fears for job then and for several month later. When employee feels that everything may have been forgotten, manager for the employer brings employee in his office for review and explains that ever though employee does a great job that employee will have a large salary reduction as per employer and will be moved to different position that does not warrant that higher salary. Now employee feels that the incident has not been forgotten just tabled to keep employee from filling sexual harassment charges.
What do you feel employee can do other than find another position with another employer at what will probably be a lower salary. Is the employee harmed in some way? Should employee seek council? Does the time period the employer waited to seek revenge play a part.
Thank you,
