What is the name of your state? NJ

I am a type 1 diabetic and became hypoglycemic, past out because my blood suguar was so low, while driving. This happened because it was my second doseage of a new type of insulin that is more "rapid acting." I unfortuntaely didn't realize what a difference it was going to make. I have been insulin dependent for 16 years.Thank goodness no one else was hurt. I hit a parked car and a town stone garbage can. I was put in an ambulance and started to come to realization of what was going on around me when I was brought into the ER.

I later received a traffic ticket in the mail for "careless driving." I feel this is a harsh ticket to receive for a medical condition. It is a 2 pt ticket ,but being in NJ I am more worried about my insurance going up and surcharge penalties. I called my insurance company to inquire about what my new possible rate could be,but was told they couldn't even estimate until it was proceesed thru DMV.

My doctor is willing to write a letter stating that this was my first day on the new medicine and this type of reaction can occurr. Would it be worth while for me to have this letter and use the public defender to try and have the ticket reduced? I don't believe I have any points on my license but am currently paying a surcharge penalty.
Please let me know.
