What is the name of your state? Texas

My husband signed a contract for employment on July 20 with a company in Texas, we were relocating to Texas when he got the job. On August 7 we received a letter letting him know that they may be retracting the offer (signed) because of his credit report. Then on August 8 we recived a second letter mailed the next day saying that they were retracting the offer (signed). The only thing that shows in the credit report is the bankruptcy that he did in 08/05 and the credit card that he has at this time and paying. The company does not want to say what is it in the credit that is bad for them.
He going to be working in sales and not working with money. Also the report shows that was printed on 07/24/2006 but they did not say anything until 08/03/2006

Can an employeer do this?
At this moment he is unemplyeed because he had given his 2 weeks and was going to start in Texas in a few days.
I read that the backruptcy law protected him? Is there anything that we can do?

Thanks
