Is there any provision for the return of property seized during a search? Specifically, the property siezed was a firearm which was housed, temporarily, in the former residence of a felon. The firearm was stored there after the felon was no longer in residence. This was a shared residence, the felon having been released from the lease prior to the search. The firearm was stored in the felon's former bedroom. Several of the felon's possessions remained in the room. The firearm became evidence as it was shown to a group of people, by the owner. Included in this group was the felon. All present handled the firearm, so the felon's prints were found on the firearm. The felon was not known to be a felon by the owner of the firearm at the time firearm was displayed to the group. The original reason for the police search is not known, but the firearm was found as a consequence. The owner of the firearm has not been charged with anything. Can the owner of the firearm get it back at some point?
