My sister is 83 and has been married for 70 yrs. Her husband has dementia and fell and broke his hip and is in a nursing home for rehab under medicare. He has 20 days free there and then she will have to pay the daily nursing home rate. It is $165 per day base rate and she says she can not afford this. She has assets apparently around $2,000,000 invested in stocks/bonds/cd's. She owns a $350,000 home and they have two trusts established for their adult children. One is disabled on SS disability and the other lives in N.M. and is an alcoholic. She obviously doesn't qualify for medicaid. What would be the legal ramifications if she refuses to pay for his care? Can they take money from the trusts? She is totally uncooperative and we can't reason with her!

Thanks--L.S.
