3 boys are being followed by a sheriff from Lyon county and never was pulled over. The sheriff lost the boys and proceeded to go on down the highway in hope to spot the boys again. The 3 boys pull over at a truck stop at beto junction to get something to drink. the sheriff from Lyon county pulls in and there was another sheriff waiting at the truck stop from Osage county. Beto junction is in Coffey county. The Lyon county officer goes up to the boy that was driving and asks him if he can search his car. The boy tells him no he hasnt done anything wrong. The lyon county officer then calls the osage county officer with his search dog and proceeds to have the dog sniff the car. The dog sniffs nothing out. They call coffey county to come to the scene. Instead of waiting for coffey county to get there, the osage county officer calls his dog by name over to the car and hits the trunk of the car and the dog then starts to bark. They said that gives them probable cause to search the car with out consent and a warrant. They find drugs and a loaded gun hidden in the car. The 3 boys were arrested and coffey county finally shows up and takes them into custody. is this a illegal search? did they coach the dog? were they suppose to have a warrant and should they have waited for coffey county to get to the truck stop?
