I had gastric bypass surgery in 2006 and financed it through a bank. The doctor was paid all at once in '06, and I have 5 years to repay the loan to the bank. Can I deduct the entire cost of the surgery (the amount financed) on my 2006 taxes, or must I only claim what I actually pay the finance company each year?

Thank you!

That is an interesting scenario....However yes, you can deduct it all for 2006.
