My daughter worked last year at age 17. She has received a W2. Do she need to do taxes since she was 17 when she worked?

It depends....

If she made less than 8450.00 for the year (and was not your dependent) then she is not required to file a tax return. However, if she is your dependent (most likely) and she made more then 5150.00 then she needs to file a tax return. However, if she made even less than that, and there was any federal withholding, then she can file a tax return to get that withholding back.

9 times out of 10 a teenager should file a tax return because the teen will get money back....not normally a huge amount, but something. However its often wisest for the teen to file a paper return (1040EZ) rather than spending any money on tax return preparation.
