What is the name of your state? KY
Uncle in nursing home (medicaid) paying. He has no one other than myself to
take care of his diabeted 9 yr old dog. Uncle wants me to take care of dog as
long as the dog lives. I buy special food and give it shots. He claims I can use
the proceeds from his house to repay me (I am POA). Medicaid will not force
sell of home because it is in uncle's name and his friend (who is very old also).
I told him I did not think this was true, because I was told that Medicaid gets
their money first and then if any is left over I could use it for care of dog.
Uncle been in nursing hom for 7 months ($5,000 month), and the house is
only going to sell for about $30,000 (still uses space heater for heat). I
do not believe there will be any left over for dog care. Is there anything I
can do except pay the expenses for his dogs care out of my pocket?What is the name of your state?

Why can't uncle pay you with his own money now? What's going to happen to the dog if uncle passes prior to the dog?

Needs answers.

How can uncle pay me now, nursing home gets all his money except $40 a month.
Uncle only receives $549.00 and nursing home gets it except $40. I was thinking
I could get loan and give uncle $15,000 for his part of house and use that money
for the care of his dog and for other misc items uncle may need. Or, if my
uncle's friend agrees to sell house, can I use money from the sell (uncle's share)
and put it aside in a trust for the care of the dog? Uncle could go before dog,
I am giving it shots and buying special dog food for it and the dog is doing ok
now except it has lost weight. Any suggestion would help.

The dog is a diabete. I give it 2 shots of isulin a day. The vet is also
having me buy special prescription dog food for it. $26 a bag for 10 pds.
I feeds the dog alot because it went from 22 pds. to 12 pds. It is doing
better now with the right dog food.

If you cannot afford to take care of the dog, give it to someone that can.

State is KY. I need someone who can answer the original question.
Please read it again and see if someone can give me a reasonable
answer, I would appreciate it. I know what I could or can do with
the dog, but that was not my question.

You asked if there was anything you could do OTHER then paying for the expenses out of you own pocket. You were given another option. You can pay OR you can give the dog to someone else OR you could have the dog put to sleep. There you go, now you have THREE options to pick from.:rolleyes:

More quesstions.

State is KY. One more questions. If my uncle's friend sells house,
can I take my uncle's half and put it in a trust for the care of his
pet, or will medicaid require me to turn it over to them ?
