What is the name of your state? WV

During 2006 I received $1707.00 in W2 income, $4413.00 in 1099-MISC income, and $1147.05 in taxable interest income. These give me a total of $7267.05 for my gross income. I have read that it is necessary for me to file since I had more than $400.00 in self-employment income. However, I have also read that if my gross income is less than $8450.00 I do NOT have to file (my filing status is single and I am under age 65). Do I need to file a tax return or not?

Yes, you will need to file. The 1099-misc alone would require you to as you will owe some self-employment taxes. (Or, probably will owe.)
