What is the name of your state? tennessee
if someone dies (no spouse) can unsecured creditors (credit cards, medical bills) go after any proceeds from real estate owned or life insurance left to chidren ?

Real estate & other assets....yes.

Life insurance....no, unless payable to the estate.
