To add spouse name or not

I live in New York. I recently came to US and am paying tax for last year.
is there any advantage of adding my wife's name in the tax form, she is a housewife.
my salary for last year is in the range of 2500 permonth.
will my refund increase with a dependent or only if we have a child??

Ok, let me ask you a question....

Would you rather have a 10,300.00 standard deduction rather than a 5150.00 standard deduction?
Would you rather have 6600.00 of personal exemptions rather than 3300.00?

If your answers to the above questions iare yes, (and they REALLY should be) then file a joint return with your wife.
