My nephew tested positive for ketamine. He's in the military. Is ketamine an illegal substance? Can he be discharged for this?

Ketamine is a anesesthia used mainly by veterinarians on larger animals. It is a controlled substance and is not recommended for human use. It is the drug of choice for idiots that try to live through "near death experience". It is considered a class A narcotic and failure of a drug test from class A drugs usually means a court martial, loss of all military benifits, reduction in rate to E1 and a more than dishonorable discharge. If he had been caught with the drug he would have face a felony drug conviction and up to life in prison at hard labor. Your nephew screwed up big time and will have a black mark against him for the rest of his life.
