In maryland if a cop pulls you over and says he smells marijuana in the car and then searches it and finds a small amount of marijuana and a pipe does he have to prove in court that he did actually smell it or is it just his word against mine?

The pot and pipe will be introduced as evidence proving the officer was correct. How do you refute that? Maybe it's time to lay off the wacky tobacky, it is affecting your judgment.
