What is the name of your state? Ma
I have been told different stories on the following example.
If you get remarried and your spouse does not have any assets and very low SSecurity money and he gets sick and has to go into a nursing home. You have a lot of money in the bank. Is 50% of your assets considered his by the state? Would this have to be spent down before he would be eligible for state aid? If this is so, is there any way around that?
thanks:

If you have a lot of money in the bank why should the good folks of your state pay for your spouses care?

Consult an Estate Planner who can look at all the paperwork and determine ownership of the funds.
