Husband and wife have several warrants out on them including felony forgery and felony theft both involving an elderly woman and the male is also wanted for fleeing a child support hearing for about $40,000 in back support. We have since discovered their wherabouts and have informed police but were told due to the cost and the priority of the offenses they won't confirm where they are and extradite them.Any thoughts out there about something similiar happening to you or a legal perspective?

The state (through the prosecutor, the court, and the law enforcement agency handling the case) have to expend the manpower and resources (i.e. money) to arrange for transportation of a suspect seized out of county. Extraditing someone from out of state is an even more complicated affair due to cost and the potential for a delay as the suspect delays the matter in court ... and it would only be a delay as there is very little chance of successfully countering an extradition in the state of arrest.

When an officer in another state contacts a subject with a warrant in NCIC (a national crime information system), the officer's agency immediately checks with the issuing agency to see if the warrant is still good and if they will extradite the suspect. if the issuing agency declines extradition, the suspect is generally free to go. This process is referred to as "confirmation" of the warrant.

Unfortunately, until the issuing agency/county is willing to pay to go get him, the suspect cannot be held to account in the issuing state.
