My employer, located in NJ, has recently incurred a few theft losses by other employees. The employer has begun to compel employees to take polygraph (lie detector) tests. My understanding is that this is an illegal practice. My questions are 1) which law is violated and who should be contacted, and 2) what type of attorney should I look for to protect my personal financial interests, in case I want to bring suit against the employer?

Call your State's Attorney General's office - you might not have to worry about hiring a lawyer.
