I was given a sign-on bonus with my current employer, and signed a contract, under the stipulation I would pay it back if I left within a years time. I have been with the company for 3 months and have taken another job with a different company. My current employer is going to withhold my last two paychecks in order to get the sign-on bonus back. This payback method, (withholding my paychecks), was not in the signed contract.
Is this legal?
I live in Michigan.
