What is the name of your state? CALIFORNIA

My friend went into a coma following a brain hemorrhage. 32 years. One hardly expects. With what legal authority can the wife operate the banks (pay rent, medical bills), take decisions on his behalf (signing up for benefits at his employment).

She really needs help on this one.

Thanks,
Sri

you friend needs to petition the court to have a guardian appointed for her husband.

Actually in California, and in dealing with an adult, I believe it is a conservator.

You need to go to court and get a conservatorship over the person. Sorry. The POA and other documents you seek, should have been created before the injury and coma when the person had the ability to sign. The documents needed are part of the big three created by an estate planning attorney. Living trust, living will, durable power of attorney. (Others too, but these will always be considered.)
