We recently hired a moving company to pack our household goods, ship them and unpack them at our new location. The moving co. rep. assured us of a delivery date and on out request for service an "agrred upon delivery date" was entered. The goods arrived 12 days after the agreed upon date. We are asking for some compensation for the expenses we incurred due to the late arrival of our goods (which included our vehicle) e.g. rental car cost, furniture, loss of use (we had to use a laundromat, eat out, etc.
We have been told that if we wanted a "guaranteed delivery date" we would have had to pay more but this was not mentioned by the rep. Now the furniture we did receive is damaged and they are dragging their feet on getting our claim addressed (we purchased an ins. policy against losses incurred due to damage etc.)
What should the moving companies liability be regarding the late delivery and handling of the claim?
