Is it age discrimination?

Cleveland, OH - About six months from retirement and a full pension, my father was "retired" by a major telecommunications company-he was told to either take a three-quarter pension or he could walk with nothing. Naturally, he took the pension as he had worked for the company for over thirty years. He was near fifty when this occured. He had nothing but excellent performance reviews (we have copies) and a younger person was hired to fill his position. Is there a case based on age discrimination here? If so, is there a statute of limitations on filing a claim (This occured a few years ago)?
