My mom and stepdad both passed away in 1999 in Florida. Mom died first (5 children....2 oldest from former marriage) and then my stepdad. (3 children with mom and 1 from earlier marriage) They owned joint property in Florida .. appoximately 25 acres with their home and belongings.
We learned right before their deaths that a sister had power of attorney over them and was making arrangements for my stepdad (her dad) to be put in a 'nursing facility' and mom would move in with her. Mom died before this took place and he died a couple of months later after being removed from the home. We are now learning that the sister had moved a bank account into hers and mom's name, gotten property, etc etc. Mom's house is being used for storage, personal property given away, locks changed, as if the sister owns the house. NOTHING has gone through probate. We siblings are getting 'uneasy'as to what to do about the property since the taxes are becoming due. We would like an accounting of what has happened to all of mom's and 'pops' belongings, money, land that our sister has been in charge of but don't know where to begin.
