I won $1500 on a slot machine during a visit to a gambling boat out of state. I have a state tax form from the casino stating the anmount I won and showing how much was retained by the casino for the state taxes (Louisianna). I have no records, but I lost about $1300 during the visit via gambling. I assume that I must show the $1500 as income on my state (NY) and federal taxes. Therefore:
1) Can I claim as an offset somehow what I lost? If so, where on the forms?
2) Can I get the money back that I paid in taxes at the casino since I am not a resient of that state?
3) Can I deduct the cost of the visit or anything else?
