What is the name of your state? TX**************....Is there a set % that must be taken out of a bonus check from your employer?

No, and it generally gets screwy because most payroll withholding is set up based on the fact that all the payroll checks are approximately equal sized. Fortunately at my company our bookkeeper specifically asks if we want special tax withholding out of our bonuses. This is relatively easy to compute at the END of the tax year, but if your bonuses come out like ours just after the new year, then you have to be a little clairvoyant.
