What is the name of your state? NE

Grey car parked in stall next to dark green car (1999 grand am, blue book value in the range of 4000.00). Green car owner sees a door ding on the molding (no other scratches or dents apparent) of her car. Assumes grey car parked next to her did it. Had work security find out who owned grey car - wanted to file a report of hit and run was told to contact local police which she did.

Police arrived, came up to grey car owners work area and escorted her out to where the cars were parked. Once police saw it was not a hit and run but a door ding no report was filed and police left.

Neither party wanted to involve insurance companies. Green car owner had an estimate done at a car dealer ship. Estimates were 200.00 for paintless repiar and pull out a ding,
2nd estimate included door ding repair/dent and a handfull of others, ie....new door handle for 678.00. Grey owner does not feel this is accurate, wanted green owner to take to another estimate place. Grey owner ended up telling other party to lets go through insurance companies as she does not feel comfortable with what is happening.

Green owner says she will be calling the police back to file a report.

What does anyone make of all this? Thanks

Q: What does anyone make of all this?

A: The person allegedly suffering the damage should sue the person allegedly causing the damage. Use small claims court. Let the judge decide who is right and who is wrong.

The police will tell green the same thing they told him before. Info was exchanged, no report required. I assume you are the owner of the gray car. If you want to report to your insurance company, go right ahead, that is your right, they will take care of it. Honestly unless you KNOW you dinged the green car, or there was gray paint on the dent, why would you accept responsibility? That ding could have been there for days, who knows. He didn't see you do it so he can't prove anything, unless like I said your paint is on his door.

This sounds like the common problem that makes people plaintiffs and defendants...

Person A hits person B. Person B gets estimate that person A says is too much. Person A wants Person B to go to "their" repair person for an estimate. Estimate still too high because now Person B is said to be inflating the repair. No agreement so Person A feels that a payment of ZERO is the solution.
