I am trying to get some information for my friends. Their 17 year old daughter has been sneaking out to see an 18 year old that she has been forbidden to date. He is sleeping with another girl, who has already gotten pregnant and gave that baby up for adoption. My friend's daughter has spent the last month lying to her parents about him. Now they find out that she has missed 10 days of school (he picked her up), is now a truant with a GPA that has gone from 3.8 to 3.0. They have taken away her cell phone, car keys, myspace access (changed her password so she can't get into her account), among countless other things. According to the school, b/c she is 16 she can't be made to attend. According to the sheriff, they can't take out a RO b/c there is no known violence. is there a way for the parents to take out a RO by other means? They are also contemplating sending her to live with her uncle in MI to finish school, but would prefer to keep her with them.

You need to get a civil restraining order.

The child needs some tough love...Remove the door to her bedroom, take away ALL of her cloths except 2 or 3 outfits (make sure these are not her "best" ;) ), install window alarms so that if she tries to sneak out it will go off. These are available at Wal-mart for just a few bucks. Take away all access to a computer...Make her quit her job. DO NOT let her out of the house unless it is for school...and drive her there and escort her to homeroom. Notify the school of the situation and all absences from class are to be brought to your attention right away. No car, no friends, no phone, no computer, no privacy, no money or job...See if the lil' princess straightens up.
