Can a dealership refuse to refund your deposit on a vehicle?

We are currently looking at purchasing a vehicle from a dealership, in which we have put a deposit on a vehicle. However, upon further review of the vehicle, and dealing with the dealership, we have become increasingly hesitant on completing this transaction not due to financial reasons but instead due to behavior of the salesmen and manager. If we decide not to enter into an agreement with the dealer, what happens to the deposit that we placed on that particular vehicle? Is the dealer obligated to return the deposit to us under NJ State law?

this is a case where you are better off going to the horses mouth. Go to google and type:
NJ
NJ+(second search tern)
NJ+(second search tern)+(third search term)
NJ+consumer protection+automobiles

I added a plus sign (+) so that google will return only pages that have NJ plus consumer protection plus automobiles

Later if you want to read what others say about the dealership but there is too much spam just add a mild cuss word like "hell" or "damn" to your search and all the BBS show up. ripped off is a good one too.

Does New Jersey Consumer Affairs get involved in cases like these? Repeat offenders?
