I live in Virginia. A neighbor saw someone enter my front window, not knowing it was a family friend, called the police. upon arriving, the house was locked, both front and back doors, the window was closed, not locked, just closed, shades were drawn, but they still entered the home. Upon entering, illegal substances were found, a search warrant issued, which eventually led to an arrest. Is this legal? Can someone just call, say they saw someone enter the home, and the police can just go in? would they not have to contact the home owner first?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Stupid is as stupid does. Be glad your neighbor was trying to protect your interest. How was he/she supposed to know it was a friend and not a foe?

Yes it is legal.
