What is the name of your state? Ohio

I couldn't find a more appropiate forum, so I hope this works...

Just a general question:

What is the maximum amount that a merchant can charge a customer for a check returned for NSF (or stopped payment)? I have looked in the ORC and OAC, but can't find the cite...

My opinion is that a merchant can charge any amount that he wants to. But... if you would sue him for excessive fees, he would have to prove it to the court that they are legitimate costs. The same for him if he sued you for nonpayment.
In my case, I ask for more than the bank charges me because of all the additional accounting paperwork that's required as well as the work to mail new bills/statements.
