What is the name of your state? California

Is there a scale of what trustees should charge for ordinary work & extra ordinary? How can I tell if the trustee is not overcharging?

No scale. You might look at Probate Code Section 15680 et. seq. for some variations on the "reasonable, subject to the terms of the trust" standard.

Find out how the trustee is calculating his or her fee. If you think the trustee is overcharging, hire an attorney who does a lot of this work and ask his or her opinion. If both of you think so, ask the attorney to explain your options.
