What is the name of your state? Indiana

Back last August my mother passed away suddenly. She left no will or anything. She had no life insureance either and the only she had was some money she had received back in June from her fathers estate. She had a car which was in her name on the loan, since her death my dad has been paying on the loan, but given his age (90) he has little income and is going through my mom's money pretty quickly just paying bills and such. What can he do with the car? Can he call the loan company and just give it back? Would he be responsonible for the remaining $9,000 owed on it?
